RESEARCH SHIPS

Research ships are mainly used by scientific organisations in undertaking coastal and offshore studies. They are a highly technical, specially designed ships for their intended purpose. Accommodation is normally provided for the ship's crew and research scientists. Particular care must be taken in the design of research ships to provide "clean" electrical power and minimise noise and vibration that could damage sensitive scientific instruments.

Stewart Marine Design has designed research ships for various scientific organisations up to 35.0m in length. These ships have mainly been built in steel, however some have been built in aluminium alloy where there were draught restrictions or other specialised needs to be met. Particular care is taken in the design of these ships. As well as having to meet the ship owner's research needs, we ensure they are easy to construction and provide low ongoing maintenance.
