OIL RECOVERY VESSELS

Oil recovery vessels are used for the collection of oil and similar substances floating on water. There are many different types of oil recovery systems on the market, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. It is normally up to the vessel owner to decide which system will best suit their needs.

Stewart Marine Design has been involved in the development of designs for oil recovery vessel since the early 1980's. The most common type now designed are "rapid response" oil recovery vessels. These vessels need to be portable and easily assembled with little or no outside assistance. They are now mainly made of aluminium alloy for a low shipping mass. The vessels must be designer specifically for the chosen oil recovery system to be used. They must also be adaptable so that a different system can be later fitted as oil recovery technology improves.
